Eligibility
What is Eligibility criteria?
The hard requirements that decide whether your application can be reviewed at all.
Eligibility criteria are the pass or fail conditions a funder sets: organization type, geography served, budget size, years of operation, tax status, and sometimes prior grant history.
Eligibility is checked before quality. An outstanding proposal from an ineligible applicant is rejected without scoring, which is why an honest eligibility check should always come before writing.
Example
An opportunity limited to organizations with an annual budget under $2 million and at least three years of audited financials excludes a two-year-old startup nonprofit regardless of program quality.
