What is NGO?
Non-governmental organization, the term used for mission-driven groups outside the US.
NGO stands for non-governmental organization. It describes an independent, mission-driven organization that operates outside of government control, most commonly used outside the United States and in international development contexts.
In practice, NGO and nonprofit describe similar organizations. Funders use the terms differently: US domestic funders usually say nonprofit, while multilateral and international funders say NGO or civil society organization.
