What is Matching funds?
Money you must contribute alongside the grant, often as a percentage of the award.
Matching funds, also called cost share, are resources the grantee must contribute to the project. A 1:1 match on a $100,000 award means you must supply another $100,000 from other sources.
Matches can be cash or in-kind, such as donated staff time or facilities, but the funder decides what counts. An unnoticed match requirement is one of the most common reasons an award becomes unaffordable after the fact.
